A poem - by Rosemary Holmes-Smith, Sechelt BC

DESPERATION by Rosemary Holmes-Smith, Sechelt, B.C

We’re living in a world of faded dreams
Clinging to our lifestyle to avoid the screams
Of third world hunger, poverty and war,
But all our actions are within the law.
Now Kyoto’s down the drain
Our planet is indeed in pain.
The birds and beasts are going fast
Fishing surely will not last.
As glaciers melt, the penguins cry
“Remember us?” and wonder why.
We need clean water; we need clean air,
Our present grade is only fair.
As trees come down and end in smoke,
It’s really time we all awoke.
Turn back the clock and slow the pace
Of self destruction and the human race.
Let’s clean up the world; it’s not too late
To change our thinking and change our fate.
