Guest Speaker is Michael J. Bradley
New Tools for Sustainable Thinking:

Sustainable tools in use today and the issues they have helped to pinpoint. The talk will be illustrated with examples from the forest products sector.

Michael J. Bradley has been responsible for the Technology & Sustainability activities of
a major BC pulp and paper producer for over two decades.

In 2000, he was a founding member of the Joint Solutions Process, the partnership
between environmental groups and industry which ultimately led to the groundbreaking
“Great Bear Rainforest Agreement”. The partners in this process were recognized with
the awarding of the WWF “Gift to the Earth” award in 2007.

He was also a member of a panel convened by the British Columbia provincial
government to recommend an approach for the province in dealing with climate.

Educated in the United Kingdom, he has a strong involvement in issues of sustainability
and process control, and is committed to the sharing of information through
technology. He is a passionate believer in trying to bring a fundamental technical
understanding to complex environmental challenges, subscribing to Kelvins dictum that
if we haven’t measured something we really don’t properly understand it.

He is an active member of the Society of Environmental Toxicologists and Chemists),
the International Association of Scientific Papermakers and a reviewer for the
International Journal of Life Cycle Assessment.

He and his wife, Irene, have had a home in Roberts Creek for a decade now. His hobbies
include astronomy, silver-smithing and birding.
